Choosing The Bulwell Academy
For more information on applying for your child's secondary school place: please see our Admissions page on this website which contains lots of useful links.
Making a secondary school choice for your child is an important decision. Our team of dedicated transition staff can help you make the choice and answer any questions you have.
When students transfer from their primary school into the Academy, we work hard to ensure that they feel settled as soon as possible. This student 'transition' activity is managed by the Head of Year 7, Mr Cook, who works with a team of fully experienced teachers and assistants.
The Principal and senior leaders at the Academy regularly meet with local primary schools to ensure that the Academy continues to offer the high level of support required to enable a positive 'transition' into secondary education.
A series of activities are planned to enable your child to understand what their learning life will be like when they join us - a happy child is a successful one. Children requiring a little extra support for their learning will be supported through the Academy's highly successful Inclusion Team, led by Mrs Caroline Wallis. Please see our dedicated web page: Inclusion - Learning for All (SEND) - for more information.
The partnership of schools within the Bulwell area is led by Mrs Linda Abbott, manager of Bulwell EAZ and Bulwell Academy Community Governor.
To help explain what life is like at The Bulwell Academy, previous Year 7 students made a film about the academy which highlights the Academy's specialism in Business and Enterprise, and captures the tremendous learning environment and strong partnerships between our staff and students.
If your child attends one of the Bulwell primary schools they may have visited Bulwell Academy site already on one of the variety of activities that Bulwell EAZ organise such as primary camp, sport festivals or curriculum taster days. These activities all help children to feel at home on the Academy site and we hope lessen any fear of going to secondary school.
Transition Day and Parents' Information Evening
During the first week in July each year, Nottingham City Transition day ensures that all Year 6 children spend the whole day at their secondary school of choice. On this day children are grouped in their new forms and have an opportunity to make new friends, get to know the lunch system and have a tour of the building as well as taking part in a wide range of team building activities.
On the same day, a Parents Evening is held to inform parents and students about the routines of the school, expectations of students, and lots of other useful information.
